MeritPoint© Explanation Merit Points accumulate for every School Chess
Association sponsored tournament that you play in. A minimum of 1 Merit Point is awarded
for all tournaments. For a 4 or 5 round tournament first place is awarded 6
merit points. Other trophies, except
the Novice trophy, are awarded 5 merit points. Novice trophy winners receive merit
points corresponding to their score as described above (changed The STATE Elementary/Primary tournament is 7 rounds and
hands out 1 merit point for each win or 8 merit points for 1st place and 7
merit points for other trophies. For Team vs. Team tournaments Merit Points are equal to a player’s score normalized to 5 rounds. I.e. if a player wins all games the player receives 5 merit points. Merit points are prorated for fewer or more rounds and rounded up to the nearest 0.25 point. An additional Merit Point is awarded if the player is undefeated and played all rounds not assigned a full point bye. Double Bughouse and Doubles tournaments are normalized to 5 merit points. That means if a player wins all of their games it's worth 5 Merit Points from play. This can result in fractional Merit Points. Fractional Merit Points are rounded up to 0.25 increments. For Double Bughouse tournaments the first place team players get 6 MPs total each and all other medal winners get 5 MPs total. For Doubles tournaments each medal winner is awarded 1 additional Merit Point.
